Optical Laboratories Association and The Vision Council Announce Joint Affiliation
Alexandria, VA (January 19, 2011) - The Optical Laboratories Association (OLA) and The Vision Council have announced their joint affiliation, naming OLA the new Laboratory Division of The Vision Council, and combining the activities of both associations to benefit their respective members. OLA will represent one of six operating divisions within The Vision Council that provide guidance, education programs, marketing materials, research and advocacy outreach to address common interests among members.
The announcement follows 18-months of discussions and deliberation between The Vision Council and OLA leadership. OLA members were surveyed and an open forum was held during the OLA's 2009 Annual Meeting to discuss the potential benefits of bringing together the OLA and The Vision Council. The results of both proved positive.
After months of discussion, we're excited to be joining together as one entity in order to better serve the ophthalmic industry and our members, said Mike Daley, The Vision Council Chairman. Moving forward, our goal is to make the affiliation of the OLA with The Vision Council as seamless as possible.
While certain aspects of the OLA will remain unchanged, including contact information, membership and dues structure, there are many new and exciting changes:
- Membership Benefits. OLA members can now receive The Vision Council membership benefits, and The Vision Council Lab members are eligible for OLA Benefits.
- Seats on The Vision Council Board of Directors. Beginning January 2011, the OLA President will have a voting seat on The Vision Council Board of Directors and the OLA Executive Director will have a non-voting seat.
- International Vision Expo West. The OLA Annual Meeting will be held during International Vision Expo West in Las Vegas on September 21-24, 2011 in response to positive feedback from members.
- Change of Address. Members of the OLA staff have moved into The Vision Council's office building. The new address is 225 Reinekers Lane, Suite 700, Alexandria, VA 22314.
Both of our organizations have long been committed to providing quality programs and services, said Jonathan Jacobs, OLA President. Now we'll be able to add more offerings and more expertise while maintaining the high quality, responsive service that our members expect.
The Vision Council and OLA will continue to collect member feedback to help guide their transition. Members of both associations will receive more detailed communication at the end of the month.
