The Vision Council Launches UV Protection Public Service Announcement
Alexandria, VA (January 21, 2010) –The Vision Council is pleased to announce the launch of a new print public service announcement (PSA), developed to increase consumer awareness of ultra-violet (UV) protection. The PSA, created in conjunction with The Vision Council’s Sunglass and Reader Division, has been distributed to approximately 5,500 media outlets across the nation.
Aimed at women, who are typically the healthcare decision makers for the family, the PSA encourages them to shield their eyes – and their family’s eyes – from harmful UV rays by wearing sunglasses for maximum UV protection. The PSA directs consumers to a dedicated page on The Vision Council’s website (www.thevisioncouncil.org/consumers/sunglasses) for more information.
“Every day, people are at risk for irreparable eye damage from unprotected, prolonged exposure to UV rays,” said Dave Bibbey, chair of The Vision Council’s Sunglass and Reader Division. “The PSA will help to educate consumers about the importance of UV protection in maintaining healthy vision.”
While the UV protection PSA launched last month, its reach will extend for years. Previous PSAs have received placements for years after their initial distribution and have reached millions of Americans. The PSA will also be repurposed into posters for eyecare professionals and Internet ads.
