Senior Center "Wall Magazine" Sponsorship
This September and October, The Vision Council’s Low Vision Division will sponsor editorial content on a “Wall Magazine” that will be posted in active senior centers across the country. Resembling a bulletin board, the 5’ x 6’ magazine will include an article that explains what low vision is and various solutions that are available for those living with low vision. The article includes a toll-free phone number for seniors to call which will connect them with The Vision Council to find a low vision professional in their area. Photos from Low Vision Division members are also included in the article.
The content will be posted in 2,150 active senior centers across the country reaching an estimated 3.1 million adults 65+, including 800,000 living with low vision. A copy of Low Vision Solutions will also be mailed to the senior center directors to share with low vision support groups or seniors in need.
Additionally, The Vision Council was allotted a free advertisement on the “Wall Magazine.” This advertisement communicates that low vision devices can help seniors see better and live better and encourages them to call the toll-free phone number for more information.

USA Today Report
A special report (PDF)was issued in USA Today's October 2 "Weekender" edition featuring The Vision Council. In addition to a front page advertisement, Dr. Michael Politzer, educator for the Low Vision Division's continuing education courses, was interviewed for an article that discusses the topic of low vision. In the report, he describes the various diseases that can lead to low vision, as well as available devices and technologies.
Nearly one million copies of the report hit newsstands on October 2 in the Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina and Washington DC markets.
Low Vision Press Kit
A press kit (PDF) focusing on low vision was also released the first week of October. With the design of a photo album, the press kit focuses on personal stories. Relevant statistics are included along with disease information, product information and potential story ideas. The press kit was sent to approximately 150 editorial outlets that reach this caretaker demographic. These outlets include, but are not limited to, magazines, newspapers and association newsletters.
Additional copies of the press kit were created for each member company to share with their top accounts. To assist your accounts in their public relations efforts, The Vision Council has also developed a "Public Relations: A How-To Guide" which provides tips on how they can utilize the press kit to earn media coverage in their area.
Charitable Donations
Making optical products available to those in need is a goal shared by both The Vision Council and our members. In an effort to keep products and support flowing to charitable organizations, The Vision Council is happy to serve as the liaison between our members and charities in the optical industry.
We encourage members to contact us if they would like to donate surplus inventory or become more involved with charitable work. Donating excess inventory not only helps clean out your warehouse in preparation for the upcoming season, it also is a great way to receive a tax benefit. The Vision Council will work with both members and charities to make the transaction as easy and efficient as possible.
