The Vision Council Calls Attention to Low Vision Awareness Month via Social Media

Alexandria, VA (Feb. 12, 2019) – February is Low Vision Awareness Month and The Vision Council is spotlighting the month through its social media platforms. Low vision is the term used to refer to a visual impairment that is not correctable through surgery, pharmaceuticals, glasses or contact lenses. Though The Vision Council's dedicated Low Vision Division makes awareness a priority year-round, throughout the month of February – and beyond – The Vision Council encourages the industry at large to join the movement.

Through free and accessible social media channels such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, The Vision Council is committing resources to post and promote low vision messaging, as well as target appropriate audiences that might be experiencing low vision themselves or are care givers seeking more information on the topic. The Vision Council encourages the industry to share these posts on their own channels and tag @thevisioncouncil on Facebook and Instagram, and @opticalindustry on Twitter.

Here are a few ways to get involved:

  • Repost or retweet posts from The Vision Council on your own social media channels, tagging The Vision Council
  • Create original posts for social media highlighting low vision facts, and encourage followers to visit whatislowvision.org for more information
  • Follow the National Eye Health Education Program (NEHEP) on Facebook for more resources to share on your own channels
  • The Vision Council also encourages eyecare providers to engage their patients in discussions about low vision.
