Build Back Better Act Update: Medicare Vision Benefit

Good Morning,

As you may know, the President and Democrats on Capitol Hill have released their draft text of the Build Back Better Act, a reconciliation package estimated to cost approximately $1.75 trillion. Currently, a Medicare vision benefit is not included in the package.

However, it is important to note that this is by no means final—negotiations will be ongoing for at least the next week or so, including another round of negotiations among Democrats in the House and Senate to agree on a final version.

It is expected that the House of Representatives will vote on this measure next week. Then, it will go to the Senate where further changes will take place before returning to the House of Representatives for final passage.

The Vision Council will continue to advocate for the Medicare vision benefit on behalf of our membership. The Vision Council firmly believes that expanding benefits like vision to more individuals is the right policy for Americans and will continue to update the membership on this important topic.
